Including an interactive online learning experience not only boosts kids mathematical proficiency, it also helps them to learn the basic computer skills necessary to achieve success in todays society. And though math games may move at a quicker pace than traditional classroom instruction, they still require kids to focus and pay attention to lessons so that basic skills can be mastered and concepts properly understood before more advanced ideas are introduced.
Start by memorizing the sets of two numbers that add up to ten (3 + 7, etc.). Then memorize the sums of two "like" numbers (7 + 7, etc.) through 10 + 10. The same procedure applies to learning multiplication. Begin with 2 x any digit (2 x 4, etc.), then follow with "like" digits (4 x 4, etc.). These kinds of things need to be memorized well enough for very fast responses. These are the necessary first steps that will help ensure future success in math.
In an ideal world, every student would be able to receive one-on-on instruction to optimize his or her learning experience. However, this is rarely possible in a modern classroom setting where there can be over twenty students and only one teacher with no aids or helpers on hand. This high ratio of students to teachers can make teaching 2nd grade math even more difficult. But online math games are designed to move at the personal pace of each child who plays.
